Hope for Global Education: International Students from 12 Countries Complete
Kobe Institute of Computing (KIC) held its Fall 2023 Degree Conferral Ceremony on September 16, 2023, welcoming as guests Victor Javier Almengor Caballero, Consul General of Panama in Kobe, and Hiroyuki Kada, a member of the House of Councilors.
International students from 12 countries (Senegal, Rwanda, Togo, Djibouti, Namibia, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Benin, Sudan, Pakistan, Myanmar, and Syria) who entered the ICT Innovator Course in October 2021 completed the course and were handed their degrees by President Toshiki Sumitani.
The valedictory speech was delivered by a student from Sudan, a recipient of “Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP)”, as a representative of the graduate who have broadened their perspectives by learning from different countries and honed their problem-solving skills through Tankyu practice.
“Our journey at the KIC has been nothing short of extraordinary. We embarked on this path as diverse individuals with unique aspirations, and today we leave as a unified community, armed with knowledge, experiences, and friendships that will last a lifetime.
Let us also take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to our families and friends. Your love, encouragement, and sacrifices have been our rock. You stood by us during moments of doubt, celebrated our achievements, and provided unwavering support throughout this incredible journey. Today’s success is as much yours as it is ours.”
She expressed her gratitude to her family and friends and for the opportunity to meet people from different cultures and backgrounds.
Representative student of the Professional Course delivered a farewell speech, and President Toshiki Sumitani gave a congratulatory address.
“Just as a sushi master carefully selects the freshest fish for the perfect slice, you approached your studies with the same precision and dedication.
Like a sushi chef who innovates with a new and unexpected flavor pairing, you introduced innovative solutions and perspectives that amazed and inspired us all.
Remember you’re not just holding a degree, but proof of your dedication to excellence and new ideas. We look forward to the positive impact you’re destined to make to the society.”
In addition to awards for students with outstanding academic achievements, an honorary degree was presented to Mr. Victor Javier Almengor Caballero, Consul General of Panama in Kobe, who has made great efforts to strengthen relations between Panama and KIC.

Kobe Institute of Computing (KIC) held its Fall 2023 Admission Ceremony on Monday, October 2, 2023, welcoming as guests Kobe City Mayor Kizo Hisamoto.
A new semester of the ICT Innovator course started with students from 14 countries: Nigeria, Uganda, Cote d’Ivoire, Tanzania, Tunisia, Vanuatu, Benin, Syria, Turkey, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, United Kingdom, and Japan.
These students, with diverse cultural backgrounds, will enhance their skills in the field of ICT and work on solving global challenges through innovation in the future.
Mr. Hisamoto, Mayor of Kobe City, delivered the congratulatory address.
“These days, we are faced with many global challenges, such as climate change,
population ageing and increasing urbanization. All of these will require many innovative
solutions, especially those stemming from the field of ICT. It is, therefore, my sincere hope that upon graduating this program you will contribute to developing these solutions as well, both here in Kobe and on the global stage.
He encouraged the new students to become future technology innovators.
President Toshiki Sumitani expressed his expectations for KIC to grow together with the new students in his address.
“You and our faculty members come from very different backgrounds, in terms of experience, religion, or culture. Your diverse perspectives and experiences will enrich our learning community, adding depth to discussions and broadening our collective worldview.”
At the end, the representative of the new students stated,
“Let’s embark on this journey together, supporting one another, sharing our knowledge, and realizing our fullest potentials. Together, let’s envision a future where our tech innovations make a genuine difference, improving lives and building a better world.”
With this powerful declaration, the semester for the new ICT Innovator Course began.
They are expected to play a leadership role in the future of the technology field.
KIC hopes that these students from 14 different countries, embracing diversity, growing together, and creating new achievements, will bring innovation to the field of ICT.
