Notice: Regarding of measures during the state of emergency

Dear KIC Students,
Due to the spread of the third wave of COVID-19 infection, the second state of emergency has been declared
to Hyogo Prefecture on January 14th, 2021. The declaration is valid until February
7, but could be extended.
Although universities and other institutions
are not subject to closure this time, we are required to take thorough necessary measures
to prevent infection, such as the cancelation of extracurricular activities and social
gatherings that involve eating and drinking, which can be highly contagious by the
droplets infection.
It is also requested to companies and organizations to reduce
the number of commuters at workplaces by 70% and to cut back on work hours after 8:00
p.m.
In response to this, KIC will implement the following measures during the state of emergency.
- Continue offering classes online.

KIC facilities will remain open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
However, we would like to ask your cooperation to limit the use in the specific cases where it is essential, such as research guidance or experiments using the school facilities.
Borrowing and returning of books at the library will be suspended from January 23 (Sat.) until the end of the emergency declaration. If you would like to borrow or return, please do it by January 22nd(Fri). On the otherhand, you can browse the books in the library during the period. - If there are any changes in the operation or schedule of classes or school events, the updated information will be notified by email or posted on Moodle. We would like to ask you to check the emails from KIC and Moodle regularly.

As a general principle, faculty members will work from home and come to KIC facilities only when necessary,
such as holding research guidance. The administrative staff will take turns working
from home and coming to the office, effective from January 19(Tue) during the declaration
period.
As the actual number of people at the office will be reduced, we may need to follow different procedures, such as issuing certificates. We appreciate your understanding and continue checking the information from KIC.
Please keep in mind the number of infected people with the disease has not yet decreased, and the cases of more highly infectious mutated strains have also been reported. Although KIC will be open its facilities to ensure the convenience of your research and study, e expect your continuous practice on the "new lifestyle" and refrain from going out unnecessarily to prevent further infection. In order to prevent the spread of infection, we ask that you act sensibly and be aware of the importance of "not getting infected" and "not letting others get infected. Thank you very much for your kind understanding and cooperation.

Spring Graduation Ceremony for the fiscal year 2020

The Spring Graduation Ceremony was held on March 20th, 2021 at the Kobe Institute of Computing, Graduate School of Information Technology.
It was attended by graduates of the class of 2020, and students living in China also participated online. President Toshiki Sumitani sent a message to the graduating students, saying, "I hope you all make the most of the ‘Tankyu spirit’ (the spirit of searching and pursuing) that you have gained at this university to play an active role in society.
Ms. Shoko Koie then gave a speech on behalf of the graduating students. Although a part of the ceremony was shortened to limit the number of participants due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the graduating students and their supervisors all participated joyfully and peacefully.
Spring Entrance Ceremony for the fiscal year 2021

The Spring Entrance Ceremony for the ICT Professional Course was held on April 9th, 2021 at the Kobe Institute of Computing, Graduate School of Information Technology.
Following a welcoming speech by the Founder of Chairman of the Kobe Institute of Computing, College of Computing, Mr. Tomio Fukuoka, and a ceremonial address by President Toshiki Sumitani, Ms. Kgaphola Mabaleng Maria Brigette, a student from South Africa, gave the welcome speech to greet the new students.
An oath representing the new students was then taken by Ms. Kexin Wang from China.

Game-changing chemistry to create social innovation in a difficult era through "ICT x Peace-Building x Social Investment".

Overview: The pandemic of Covid-19 has continued to rage, and the path to its end is still hard to see. People are forced to curb socio-economic activities, and the effects are not only economic stagnation but also a wide range of adverse effects. The distance learning using information and communication technology (ICT) has spread worldwide at once. Online meeting is no longer a special item. However, the status of the digital divide is widening the gap between rich and poor. Even in peacebuilding, the process tends to be stagnant due to the restraint of actions by infection prevention.
Social investment, an integral approach to creating the most critical employment opportunities for developing countries, is entering a new phase due to the stagnation of international flow. All of those are seriously influencing SDGs achievement negatively. Thus, the non-traditional way to utilize ICT should now be boldly tried not only in education and health but also in peace-building and social investment to pursue sustainable development in a difficult era.This webinar series is originated by a group of development practitioners who share such awareness of crucial issues. With such a backdrop, this event explores how to examine the possibility of socially demonstrating and implementing the ideas on effective mix of ICT, peace-building, and social investment, through discussion between resource speakers and participants to surmount the academic framework.

Final Presentation for ICT Innovator Course 2021

The final presentation for the ICT Innovator Course, 2021 was held on the 16th of August at KIC by final year students at the culmination of their final year of study.
The students from deferent developing countries in Africa, Eastern Middle East, and Asia gave their final presentations as their
compilation of two years studying at KIC.
They used practical methods to create innovative solutions for social problems in their home countries by utilizing ICT technologies and the method of “Tankyu Practice” which they have learned at KIC
Mr. Toshiki Sumitani, President of KIC, was very impressed and commented “Actually I know you are all brilliant and have a strong sense of responsibility. However, today I was able to see excellent results beyond my expectations. Well Done!

Fall 2021 Graduation Ceremony Held with Students from 13 Countries
September 18, 2021
On Saturday, September 18, 2021, the Fall 2021 graduation ceremony was held on Kobe Institute od Computing campus after implementing Covid-19 measures. 15 students from 13 countries, including Japan, received their degrees.
The ceremony was attended by the graduating students and faculty members, while their families, friends, faculty members, current students, and people from JICA and other related organizations participated via online live streaming.
The students participated in the ceremony wearing traditional and formal costumes of their countries, expressing their feelings over the past two years.
President Toshiki Sumitani conferred the degrees on the representatives of the graduating students who had worked on their final research in the Corona disaster and celebrated their big day.
"I am confident that you will become a front-runner not only in your home country but also in the world."
The representative of the graduating class in his valedictorian speech said,
"When we started our first academic year, no one knew how things would change in a matter of months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are all here now to celebrate our victories, our successes, our accomplishments, and the journey that we have all taken together towards our future destinations.
We came here from different backgrounds and diverse cultures, but as proud students of a university, we move forward with a shared passion for success."
After the ceremony, the mood was relaxed. Students praised each other in their own way and took commemorative photos with their friends and mentors.
It has been a very difficult two years for this graduating class. However, on the day of the ceremony, we were blessed with clear skies after the typhoon passed, and it turned out to be a truly gorgeous and splendid graduation ceremony.
We would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude to all those who have supported these students and their families.
Fall 2021 Entrance Ceremony Held with Students from 13 Countries

Students from 13 countries, including Japan, participated in Fall Entrance Ceremony on October 1st, 2021. The ceremony, which was conducted entirely online due to the effects of the coronavirus outbreak, was attended by students dressed in their national costumes, faculty members, staff and student representatives, creating a truly international atmosphere.
Mr. Toshiki Sumitani, President of KIC, said in his address, "You are highly motivated and talented students who will contribute to the development of your country and the world after your research at KIC. I hope you will contribute to the society by using IoT, Big Data and AI." He gave the remark of encouragement.
The representative of the current students, Mr. Masayuki Kanada, who usually takes the classes in Japanese, said,
"We get a lot of inspiration from the exchange students because they are representatives of their countries and have a great motivation to learn. I am looking forward to studying with you. "
Ms. EI KODSI, Zainab, who joined the university a year ago, said, "I congratulate you on your decision to study at this wonderful university. Studying at KIC is an opportunity for you to discover a different culture, to make this difference an asset, and to strengthen your cultural intelligence. It is also an opportunity to discover oneself and listen to one's own inner voice in a completely new environment. Although COVID-19 has forced us to meet online, we will overcome this challenge together. I hope you enjoy your life in Japan."
Finally, new students introduced themselves, each expressing their expectations and commitment to their studies at KIC.
Since most of the new students were still unable to come to Japan due to the effects of the corona outbreak, the event was held completely online, as it was last year. However, the ceremony was filled with the heartfelt welcome of the participating faculty, staff, and current students, and the fresh determination of the new students.
We sincerely hope that this year's new students, who set sail under difficult circumstances, will pave the way for a new history of our university, and we ask for the support of all concerned.
We would also like to express our gratitude to all people who helped us with the enrollment process.
The ceremony was held at a time when people from all over the world could participate, and the entire program was conducted in English.
